Farming Basics
Build Garden Beds, Frames, and Lattices
To get started you first need to build either a Garden Bed, Frame Farm, or Lattice. These can be built in several different styles but the simplest are the wood versions.
Wooden Garden Bed
- 5x Fiber
- 10x Wood
- 2x Clay
Wood Frame Farm
- 10x Fiber
- 20x Wood
- 2x Clay
Wooden Lattice
- 5x Fiber
- 8x Wood
Planting Seeds
There are a variety of seeds in Len’s Island. The seeds can be grown in Garden Beds, Frame Farms, and lattices which will eventually grow into bushes, vines, or trees for harvest.
The seeds can be acquired by harvesting crops scattered across the archipelago or purchased from one of several NPCs in the game.
The below table shows all of the seeds in Len’s island and exactly where to plant/grow each as well as where to purchase the seeds should you need them. (*Keep in mind mushrooms can only grow in caves and don’t have seeds. You must plant the mushrooms themselves).
Seed | Grown In/On | Purchase Location |
Blueberry Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Steph on the Starting Island |
Pumpkin Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Gerard on the Black Forest Island |
Pear Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | N/A |
Banana Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Edwardo on the Desert Island |
Watermelon Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Edwardo on the Desert Island |
Grape Seeds | Vine | Edwardo on the Desert Island |

Rose Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Steph on the Starting Island |
Marigold Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Steph on the Starting Island |
Lavender Seeds | Garden Bed/Frame | Gerard on the Black Forest Island |

Watering & Harvesting Crops
If crops are not watered they won’t grow and if left without water for five days they will die. To water crops you will first need to acquire the Basic Watering Can. Next, you should build a Well. You will use this well to fill up your watering can and consequently water your crops.
Wooden Well
- 12x Fiber
- 50x Wood
- 20x Stone
You’ll know your crops are ready for harvest when they burst with color and you see a glittering effect around them. You can harvest the crops manually one by one or use a Scythe to harvest bunches at a time.
Below are all the crops available for growing, their benefits, and the form they take when fully grown.
Crop | Grow Type | Heal Amount | Hunger Filled |
Banana | Tree | 10 | 2.5 |
Blueberries | Ground | 0 | 2 |
Grapes | Vine | 5 | 2 |
Lavender | Ground | -5 | 0.5 |
Mango | Tree | 10 | 2.5 |
Marigold | Ground | -5 | 0.5 |
Mushroom | Caves | 0 | 1.5 |
Olive | Tree | 0 | 1.5 |
Passionfruit | Vine | 5 | 2 |
Pear | Tree | 0 | 2.5 |
Pumpkin | Ground | 0 | 3 |
Rose | Ground | -5 | 0.5 |
Watermelon | Ground | 0 | 2.5 |
Wheat | Ground | 0 | 0.5 |
Advanced Farming
When you’re ready you can take your farming to the next level by automating the watering process.
To do this you will need to build the Water Pump, Windmill and Water Tower. The wooden style being the most basic of building styles to use. (Keep in mind you must upgrade your workbench to unlock these recipes).
For the water tower, water pump, and windmill to work together they must be in close proximity to each other. As you place each of these pieces of equipment you’ll see white lines extending from them indicating which other pieces of equipment they can connect.
Wooden Water Tower
The Water Tower is simply a place for storing water. When the water tower is filled with water it can service up to 8 farm frames nearby by automatically watering when the crops are thirsty.
- 50x Wood
- 25x Iron Shard
- 140x Hardwood
- 60x Salvaged Metal
You will be able to upgrade the water tower an additional two times to expand the number of farm frames it can service. First to 14 frames, and 24 frames with the final upgrade. To complete the upgrades you will need Hardwood, Hardened Steel, and Machine Parts.
Water Pump
The Water Pump can be placed in the ocean and when combined with a nearby windmill can automatically refill a water tower as it empties.
- 25x Hardwood
- 7x Hardened Steel
- 5x Machine Parts
Wooden Windmill
The Windmill serves as a power source for the water pump and enables the water pump to automatically replenish the water stored in the water tower.
- 50x Fiber
- 350x Wood
- 100x Iron Shard
- 10x Machine Parts
Guide to Farming Tools & Gear
Farming Tools
Both the scythe and watering can are essential tools to enable farming in Len’s Island. Each of which have basic versions and upgraded versions which enhance their capabilities to improve your farming.
Scythe
Scythes allow you to harvest your crops more efficiently. Without the scythe you must harvest your crops one at a time. Using the scythe you can harvest several crops simultaneously.
- Iron Scythe: Purchased from Steph on the starting island
- Hardened Scythe: Upgraded from the Iron Scythe at an Anvil
Watering Cans
Watering cans enable you to water planted crops. Crops need water to survive and grow. Without water they will not grow to maturity. Furthermore, if crops go without water for too long they will die.
The original watering can, can be purchased but must then be upgraded further at an anvil. Each upgrade to the watering can increase the volume of water that the watering can can hold at once.
- Basic Watering Can: Purchased from Steph on the starting island
- Farmer’s Watering Can: Upgraded from the Basic Watering Can at an Anvil
- Big Bucket: Upgraded from the Farmer’s Watering Can at an Anvil
Farming Gear
Steph on the starting island has two pieces of farming gear for sale that provide major enhancements to your farming. Keep in mind that Steph only sells these items after you have purchased the Basic Watering Can and Iron Scythe.
