Valheim Fenris Gear Frost Cave

The Fenris Armor set is a light mountain-tier armor set that that was added for crafting in Valheim during patch 0.207.2 on March 1st 2022. Undeniably, the Fenris armor is one of the most unique sets in the game in that it is the only set to give you a speed boost amongst other benefits. As a result, it is a must craft for both new and veteran Valheim players.

In this guide I will cover how to craft Fenris Armor in Valheim through the following:

Fenris Armor Overview

The Fenris Armor is the mountain biomes light armor providing you with less armor than the alternative mountain heavy armor – the Wolf Armor set. However, the set more than makes up for it by providing you with resistance to frost damage and increased movement speed of 3% per piece.

The armor set is composed of three pieces

Fenris Blessing

The armor set really shines when equipping all 3 pieces and receiving the set effect bonus Fenris Blessing

Fenris Blessing provides resistance versus fire damage and a +15 bonus to fists damage. In addition to the combined 9% increased movement speed and frost resistance already provided by the gear pieces individually.

Acquiring Recipe Items

In summary to craft the three pieces of the Fenris Armor set you’re going to need 4 different items all of which are found in the mountains and the new mountain dungeons – Frost Caves.

Fenris Hair

Fenris hair can only be found within the Frost Caves in the mountains biome. These rare but you can’t miss them once they come into view.

Valheim - Frost Cave
Fenris Hair Banner

As you navigate the frost cave dungeons you’ll find the Fenris hair lying on the ground or hanging on walls and banners. By all means ensure you pick these up and/or break the banners on wall mounts to ensure the hair drops.

Beware – the frost caves are dangerous with Cultists, bats, Ulvs and rarely Stone Golems ready to put you to the test.

Wolf Pelts

Unlike the fenris hair we won’t need to venture into the frost caves to gather wolf pelts. By comparison, all we must do is march around the mountain biome in search of wolves. Each wolf kill is a guaranteed drop for a wolf pelt with one star and two star wolves dropping even more. Keep an ear out for their howl – letting you know they’re near by.

Leather Scraps

Leather scraps is the easiest item to acquire and You have two options for acquiring leather scraps.

  1. Navigate to the frost caves and kill bats
  2. Kill boars in the Meadows

Cultist Trophy

Valheim - Cultist
Cultist

The Cultist Trophy is a rare drop from the Cultist enemy only found in the Frost Caves. Considering its rarity you may need to kill a dozen or more of this enemy before the trophy drops. On the positive side, you only need one of these trophies to craft and upgrade the Fenris Hood to its max level.
